After working on this case I was interviewed by several national recognized television shows that reported stories of real crime stories.  The show was re-ran numerous times. Every time the show aired I received calls from all over the United States asking me for help.

Most of the people who contacted me explained how someone took advantage of an elderly family member and they had proof, but they couldn't get law enforcement to investigate it.

Many of the detectives working these cases believe it is a civil case, but that is not true. The suspects took advantage of an elderly or vulnerable person and they needed to be charged with the crime of theft at the least. It was sad to hear these stories.

Prevention is the best way to combat these crimes. Take some steps as soon as you see that your loved ones are  declining mentally.

Hiring a Caregiver

There are steps you can take to protect your loved ones when hiring a caregiver.

  • Hire caregivers only through a bonded and insured home-care agency.

  • Don’t use an online classified site like Craigslist or put an ad in the paper.

  • What experience and certifications are employees required to have?

  • Does it do criminal background checks on its caregivers?

  • Does it conduct drug screening?
